Nashik, Oct 11: Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) on Saturday, Oct 11 opposed the Maharashtra government for its decision to give legal rights to a woman having live-in relationship with a man. ''This is a wrong move which will destroy our 'family system', the soul of our culture,'' VHP Western Maharashtra President Eknath Shetye told on Saturday, Oct 11.

On Wednesday, Oct 8, the State Cabinet approved a proposed provision of including a woman sharing live-in relationship with a man in the definition of a wife and giving her the legal right of alimony in case of divorces.

The VHP leader also strongly opposed the recent statement by NCP president Sharad Pawar, in which he allegedly claimed that the terrorism across the nation was a result of Babri Masjid demolition by the Hindutva organisations in 1992.

The VHP leader also expressed his support for the hunger strike by Jain Saga Bhuvan here, in protest of slaughter of animals and export of their flesh.
