Two arrested with 10 kg heroin

Ferozepur, Oct 9 (UNI) The Punjab police busted an inter-state gang of drug smugglers and recovered 10 kg of heroin valued at Rs 50 crore in the international market from their possession here today.

Acting on a tip-off, a police party intercepted an Indica car near Jhoke Harihar village on Ferozepur-Muktsar road in which two drug smugglers were travelling. On searching, the police recovered 10 packets of heroin, packed in a gunny bag.

During preliminary interrogations, the arrested smugglers reportedly confessed that the consignment had come from Pakistan through the Hussainiwal border and was headed for Muktsar area.

The arrested smugglers were identified as Mahil Singh, a resident of Maneywala village and Gurcharan Singh alias Kala, a resident of Gheruwala village under Jalalabad sadar police station in Ferozepur district.

"We are probing their links and trying to ascertain the identity of other persons involved in the racket, especially those who smuggle the contraband from Pakistan and receive the consignment in India," the police said.

Two days back the Border Security Force (BSF) had seized nine kg heroin near the Indo-Pakistan border in Fazilka sector of this district.
