Tight security cover for PM visit at Chanderkot
Udhampur, Jammu, Oct 9 (UNI) Three-tier security arrangement has been made for the protection of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh who will commission the 450-MW first phase of Jammu and Kashmir's first state-owned 900-MW Baglihar hydro-electricity project tomorrow at Chanderkot, about 165 km north of Jammu.
After landing at the Udhampur airbase, the Prime Minister is scheduled to reach Chanderkot by chopper.
Dr Singh will address a public gathering at the Chanderkot Guest House ground from where he will inaugurate the project by pressing a remote button, official sources said.
Senior security officials were continuously monitoring the thickly forested Chanderkot area. Three-tier cover has been put in place to thwart any terror threat during the high-profile visit, the sources said.
''While army troops are picketing the outer ring at mountain peaks, the inner circles have been sanitised by the police and Paramilitary forces,'' the sources added.
The Prime Minister will later fly to Srinagar, where he would flag off the first intra-Valley train.
The 900-MW power project on the Chenab river is of two phases each of 450 MW.
Work on the Baglihar power project started in 1999.
