Kullu Dussehra begins in Himachal
Kullu, Oct 9 (UNI) The week long Kullu Dussehra festival started with a grand procession of Lord Raghu Nath from the historic Dhalpur Grounds here today.
Himachal Pradesh Governor Prabha Rau accompanied by Member of Parilament, Shanta Kumar along with prominent people of the area and devotees in large numbers participated in the Rath Yatra.
About 200 gods and godess from various parts of the Kullu valley assembled at the Dhalpur Grounds to participate in the festival, which is being organised since the year 1660 in a traditional manner. The Kullu Dussehra commences when the Dussehra festival in the rest of the country comes to an end.
During the week long festival cultural troops from various parts of the country and even from abroad will perform at the Dhalpur Grounds in the evenings. Traditional handicraft and handwoven items of the hill state, particularly the famous Kullu shawl have always been in great demand during the festival.
The district adminstration has made tight security arrangements and for the first time, CCTV cameras have been installed at the festival venue.
