Teppotsavam to be held at Durga ghat tomorrow
Vijayawada, Oct 8 (UNI) The stage is set for 'Teppotsavam' in the river Krishna on the occasion of Vijayadasami tomorrow on a decorated 'Hamsavahanam' a special boat built in the shape of the mythical swan, taking the processional idols of Goddess Durga and Mallikarjuna Swamy for 'Nadi Viharam' as portrayed in Hindu mythology.
An official of the Sri Durga Malleswara Swamivarala Devasthanam atop the Indrakeeladri hill here told UNI today that all arrangements for the celestial boat ride have been completed. Before that the deities would be brought in a palanquin from here to Durga ghat where the boat ride would take place.
He said the Krishna district collector, City Police Commissioner, and temple priests would be allowed in the boats. Many VIPs would accompany the 'Hamasavahanam'.
Elaborate security arrangements have been made at the temple as lakhs of pilgrims would witness the festival, he added.
Meanwhile, a large number of devotees visited the temple and worshiped the Goddess after having a holy dip in the river Krishna as today was considered the most auspicious day with the presiding deity attired in the form of 'Mahishasura Mardhini'.
The ten-day 'Navarathri' celebration would conclude on the evening of tomorrow.
