UP Govt to hand over kumbh mela area to U'khand
Dehra Dun, Oct 7: The Uttar Pradesh Government has in principle agreed to hand over the 'Kumbh Mela' area in Haridwar to Uttarakhand, State Chief Secretary Indu Kumar Pande said.
''The Uttar Pradesh government has in principle agreed to transfer the 'Kumbh mela' area in Haridwar to Uttarakhand.
We expect the formal orders to be issued soon after the matter is taken up in the UP Cabinet,'' Mr Pande told UNI.
''The decision was taken in a meeting of senior officials of both the states in New Delhi yesterday to work together to sort out the issue which has been on the anvil for more than eight years,'' Mr Pande said.
He said the implementation of the decision could take another 10-15 days.
The hilly state of Uttarakhand is already making arragements to welcome the 2010 Kumbh Mela which is expected to draw hordes of pilgrims. The last Kumbh Mela was held in 1998 at Haridwar.
