Tight security for 'Jamboo Savari'
Mysore, Oct 7 (UNI) The City Police has made tight security arrangements for the 'Jamboo Savari' (Dasara procession) here on October nine with 4,000 police personnel on duty following Intelligence reports about possible entry of terrorists into the city ahead of the festivities, a top police official today said.
Addressing the media here, City Police Commissioner Parashivamurthy said a two-phase security would be provided during the procession.
Tight security arrangements have been made at the palace where the procession would begin. All gates to the palace have been fitted with closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras. Metal detectors have been installed and people movement restricted inside the premises.
As many as 30 mobile squads and anti sabotage check posts would maintain round-the-clock vigil at all entry points to the city.
As many as 500 community police officers would help visitors during the day. Bomb detection and sniffer dog squads would be kept ready.
Mr Rao said police has sought the help of its counterparts in neighbouring districts and states such as Kerala and Tamil Nadu for identifying habitual offenders.
Central and State Intelligence teams were camping in the city following a general security alert, espcially after the recent blasts across the country. CCTV cameras would be installed in vantage points in the city.
Tight security will be in place at Bannimantap where the torchlight parade would be held.Hotel and lodge owners have been asked to maintain alert for suspicious persons checking into the premises.
He also requested the Railways and Transport Corporation to install CCTV faclities during festival at the Railway Station and the bus stand here.
Hospitals have been asked to be ready to meet any eventuality, the senior police officer said.
