CPI demands discussion in Parliament on nuke deal
Chennai, Oct 7 (UNI) The Communits Party of India (CPI) today reiterated that India should not sign the nuclear deal with the United States as it was not in the interest of the country as being claimed by the Centre as well as the US.
The party's national secretary and MP D Raja who expressed opposition to the deal again at a press conference here alleged that the UPA government has 'hidden' the truth about the conditions in the deal which went against the interest of the country.
Demanding that the details of the deal should be discussed in Parliament in the next session, Mr Raja pointed out that while the US government has been claiming that the 123 agreement was in accordance with the atomic energy act of United States and the Hyde Act, the UPA government had not said this.
This was tantamount to the Centre witholding information, he alleged, and claimed that even top nuclear scientists in the country had opined that the deal was not favourable to India.
He said in these circumstances, the deal must be discussed in Parliament.
