Change of guard in Manipur military headquarter

Imphal, Oct 7 (UNI) Major General TS Handa, SM posted at the Manipur military headquarters at Leimakhong handed over the reins of 57 Mountain Division to Major General Shakti Gurung yesterday.

During the tenure of Mr Handa, large number of successful counter insurgency operations were conducted, the most prominent of which was operation LOKTAK VIJAY against the PREPAK COBRA Task Force.

Troops under his command displayed exemplary behaviour while carrying out operations, an official statement said.

He was also responsible for the establishment of DISHA Boys hostel where children from the weaker sections of society would be given an opportunity to fulfill their dreams.

Speaking on the occasion, Major General Handa said that he was carrying with him very fond memories of the people of Manipur which would remain with him through out his life.

Major General Shakti Gurung is also an alumni of National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla and was commissioned into the reputed Genadiers Regiment in 1975.

He has vast experience of handling counter insurgency operations in Jammu and Kashmir and Assam.

He is coming from Delhi where he was posted at Headquarters, Integrated Defence Staff.
