4,636 cases of power theft detected
Chandigarh, Oct 7 (UNI) The Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam has recovered Rs 341 lakh from the erring consumers who were stealing electricity upto September 30.
A spokesman said here today that the Nigam detected 4,636 cases of pilferage of power and the penalty of Rs 666 lakh had been imposed.
As many as 1,283 cases of theft of electricity had been detected in district Jind, 953 in Karnal, 569 in Kurukshetra, 461 in Sonipat, 388 in Yamuna Nagar, 366 in Jhajjar, 238 in Panipat, 191 in Rohtak, 136 in Ambala and Panchkula and 51 in district Kaithal.
In most of the cases the erring consumers had been stealing electricity through Kundi connections, meter by pass or tampering the meters.
He said that the Nigam has fixed a target of checking 1.80 lakh consumer meters for the current year. As many as 57,187 consumer meters have been checked so far.
