26 Myanmarese poachers nabbed in A

Port Blair, Oct 7 (UNI) The Andaman and Nicobar(A&N) Police have apprehended 26 Myanmarese poachers from remote Kadamtala village of Middle Andaman region and recovered a large quantity of sea cucumber.

Following a tip-off by fishermen about the presence of foreign poachers in the Hiren Tikrey area of Kadamtala village, a team of police personnel, in collaboration with the forest officials, conducted search for the poachers on Saturday.

During the search, the police spotted two engine dinghies carrying Myanmarese poachers, which were later chased and intercepted, Superintendent of Police in Andaman Ashok Chand told UNI today.

Approximately 90 kgs of sea cucumber and 270 kgs to Tokas Shell were recovered from these two dinghies, Mr Chand informed.

Both the engine dinghies were seized and the Myanmarese poachers brought to Port Blair for initiating necessary legal action against them, the SP added.
