Zubin and Israel Philharmonic Orchestra to serende Mumbai
Mumbai, Oct 6 (UNI) Maestro Zubin Mehta and the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra will serenade the city's western classical music lovers by holding five concerts from October 7 to 12.
The concerts will be held to celebrate the birth centenary of the maestro's father Mehli Mehta.
Legendary artists from the world of western classical music, Pianist Daniel Bareboim, tenor Placido Domingo, Soprano Barbara Fritolli and violinist Pinchas Zukerman will join Mehta in the shows, organized by city based Mehli Mehta Music Foundation.
Thanking his orchestra which will perform four of the five shows for free, Mr Mehta said, '' With India holding a great attraction for all the artists. This is the third time the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra will be performing in the country and its turning into a kind of a musical fest and Bombay has responded incredibly.'' Revealing that proceeds of the concerts would go to help Mehli Mehta Music Foundation build a music academy for young artists of the country, Mehta said, ''We hope to raise enough funds and individual donations and start building a school with teachers from abroad and within to teach the young talent here. We don't want them to go abroad to study music ''.
Mehta was also presented with a cricket bat signed by Sachin Tendulkar.
A Postal cover honouring Mehli Mehta was unveiled by Chief PostMaster General S M Bali during the pre-concert conference.
