New Delhi, Oct 6 (UNI) The 6th Pay Review Committee's recommendations to raise college and university teachers's pay scales and retirement age are being examined by the University Grants Commission, sources said tonight.

The Committee Report, submitted to the Commission on Friday, is expected to be forwarded to the Human Resource Development Ministry with any modifications or inputs by October 10, sources said.

Besides the Commission's senior officials going over the Report, the views of such bodies as All India Federation of University and College Teachers have also been received, sources said.

The Committee has recommended raising Professors' pay scales from Rs 16,400 onwards to Rs 37,400 onwards and creating five new posts, including Professor of Eminence, with a fixed pay of Rs 80,000, the same as the new pay for Vice Chancellors, hitherto drawing a fixed Rs 25,000.

The Committee has also recommended ending freeze on teachers recruitment and renaming Lecturers as Assistant Professors.

It has recommended fixing the age of superannuation of all college and university teachers throughout India at 65 years and re-employment selectively on contract basis up to the age of 70 years.

It has also recommended encouraging teachers to accept consultancy and projects, register patents and research and development products and technology transfers, without having to share proceeds up to 30 per cent of their gross salary.
