One injured in shootout in court complex in Punjab

Ludhiana, Oct 6 (UNI) One person was seriously injured following a shootout in the district court's complex here this afternoon.

Police reports said three to four armed persons entered the courts complex and opened fire on a rival group that had come for the hearing of a rape case. Manvir Singh, a resident of Gill village sustained three bullet injuries in the shooting spree.

The armed persons managed to flee. The incident took place very close to the Bar Association office where a function was being held.

Punjab Parliamentary Secretary Harish Rai Dhanda and local MP Sharanjit Singh Dhillon were present at the event.

Investigations by the police identified the alleged offenders as Gurdip Singh, Jasbir Singh, Inderjit and Balwant of Sudhar village.

The four had planned to avenge the alleged rape of their relative a couple of years back by Manvir Singh's friends.

Manvir Singh accompanied his friends to the court in connection with the hearing of the rape case.

The police have registered a case against those responsible for the shootout. However, no arrests has been made. The injured person was admitted to the CMC hospital here.
