Delhi businessman drowns while trying to save daughter

Dharamshala, Oct 6 ( UNI) A Delhi businessman drowned while trying to save his teenaged daughter from being swept away in Banner Khad at Kangra last evening.

Pramod Kumar, 48, a resident of Nangloi in west Delhi, was here on Navratra pilgrimage with his three daughters and niece to pay obeisance at Bajjreshwari temple.

They went to Banner Khad near Kangra Mandir Railway station last evening to have a bath, when Reeta, 14, slipped into the waters of the Banner Khad and began drowning.

Pramod, who did not even know swimming, jumped into the deep waters of the khad and himself began to drown.

Meanwhile, a police personnel and a local man also jumped into the waters and saved Reeta.

However, they could not rescue Pramod.

Pramod's body was fished out late last evening and he was cremated here today by his family, which had arrived here from Delhi.
