Tarn Taran leads in paddy procurement in country
Chandigarh,Oct 5 (UNI) The border district of Tarn Taran was leading in paddy purchase in the country with an estimated 1,72,529 tonnes having been procured so far by the government agencies and private millers.
The total procurement in Punjab till yesterday evening touched 14 lakh tonnes with the government agencies accounting for 87.3 per cent of the total purchase.
Ferozpur district was at the number two position in the country accounting for 1,29,472 tonnes of paddy.
While the central government agency, FCI had procured only 17,540 tonnes, the millers accounted for 1,72,971 tonnes. The remaining was procured by the state government agencies--Pungraun, Punsup, Markfed, Punjab State Warehousing Corporation and Punjab Agros.
The Mandi Board has setup 1622 procurement centres throughout the state to ensure smooth procurement of paddy.
