Agartala, Oct 5 (UNI) The Tripura police today defused another live bomb in the Abhaynagar area of the state capital on the eve of Durga Puja festival.
Official sources said passersby noticed a suspicious packet in a drain in the Abhaynagar area and immediately alerted the police.
On receiving the information, police rushed to the spot and defused the explosive device. A mobile phone battery and splinters were also recovered from the packet.
Following the serial blasts in Agartala on October 1, the Tripura government has made unprecedented security arrangements in all urban areas, including the state capital, to ensure peaceful Durga Puja festivities in the state and counter terrorist attacks as well as militant threats.
The state authorities made extra deployment on all the roads, markets and puja pandals while DGP Pranay Sahay, along with senior security officials, was personally monitoring the arrangements.
Metal detectors were placed at some puja pandals while fresh tips for the general public were issue.
According to reports, 22,000 security personnel, including state police and paramilitary forces, were pressed into service, besides private security personnel and volunteers, to ensure peaceful Durga Puja festivities.
The police was undertaking extensive frisking of vehicles on all the roads and interrogating the people on suspicion and preventive detention had already been started at police station level, which would be continued till Kali Puja, the police added.
