Flood PM with telegrams to stop genocide in Lanka: Karunanidhi
Chennai, Oct 5 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK President M Karunanidhi today urged the people to send lakhs of telegrams to Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh to stop the ''genocide of innocent Tamils in Sri Lanka.'' The contents of the telegram should be ''the Honourable Prime Minister is requested to intervene immediately and stop genocide of Tamils in Sri Lanka,'' he said in an appeal to the people of the State.
Expressing concern over the ''non-stop killing of Tamils in the Island nation,'' the Chief Minister said the Indian government should treat the issue as of national importance and immediately intervene to protect the ethnic Tamils there.
He said ceasefire should be declared in the strife-torn nation and efforts should be made to arrive at a peaceful solution.
Taking into consideration the killings in Sri Lanka, the Indian government should not hesitate to intervene and find ways and means to prevent recurrence of such killings, he said, according to a DMK release here.
The Prime Minister should treat the telegrams as a warning signal from the people of the State and take steps to bring a halt to the killing of Tamils, he added.
