DMK starts questioning Congress on its deeds
Puducherry, Oct 5(UNI) Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam(DMK), the main opposition party in Puducherry, which was hitherto silent on the deeds of the Congress Government, began questioning it.
In a DMK trade union function here today, the party youth-wing Convenor, R Siva MLA, referred to Congress leader and Union Minister of State for Planning and Parliamentary Affairs, V Narayanasamy's statement that the opposition parties should be treated as ''enemies'' and that the Congress should ensure that no opposition party exists here and also the remark of Puducherry Welfare Minister M Kandasamy that the Congress could win the elections on its own, wondered whether the party do not need the support of DMK.
Mr Siva said it was not proper on the part of a responsible Congress leader and the Union Minister to make such statements. Let the Congress come out openly, if they do not need the support of DMK and then let us see, whether the Congress Government will be there in Puducherry, he added.
State DMK convenor and former Chief Minister R V Janakiraman, speaking on the occasion, cited Siva's demand and said the DMK was keeping patience and the people would give a fitting rebuff to the Congress, rather than the DMK in the coming elections.
He said the DMK, which is the main opposition party and supporting the Congress Government, should be treated as an alliance party and all the welfare schemes and other assistance being provided in Congress constituencies should be implemented in the constituencies of the DMK also. If the Government fails to adhere to it, the DMK would certainly demand an explanation from it, he added.
