Jail inmates reap paddy from fields

Kannur, Oct 4 (UNI) The inmates in the Kannur central prison today reaped paddy from the fields that they had sown four months back.

Twenty five inmates, including two life impriosnment prisoners, were engaged in harvesting the crop, which started yesterday.

It was in July that the inmates with the help of agriculture department had planted seeds in 50 cent land inside the prison.

This year, the harvest was 100 per cent and in the coming years, more cultivation would be done in the nearby panchayat areas, Assistant Jailor Somarajan said.
