'Child swapping' leads to tension

Hyderabad, Oct 4 (UNI) Tension prevailed at the government Nayapul Maternity Hospital here following complaint of child swapping from a couple here today.

Ms Sandhya, a native of Warangal district gave birth to a child in the early hours today.

When the hospital staff placed a baby girl in her bed, she objected stating that she had given birth to a boy.

Her relatives then resorted to agitation.

However, the hospital authorities denied the charge and stated that Ms Sandya gave birth to a girl only. The confusion occurred when the hospital staff had mistakenly placed a baby boy in her bed earlier.

The number in the tags tied to the wrist of the woman and the baby girl tallied, the hospital authorities said.
