Tripura Fisheries College teacher accused of indulging in ragging
Agartala, Oct 3 (UNI) Students of Tripura Fisheries College have accused the Assistant Registrar of the College of indulging in ragging and torturing students in the campus and demanded his immediate removal.
The students have been agitating for the past two weeks following suspension of aqua-culturist of Tripura Fisheries College Prof M C Nandeesha, who had complained against the corrupt practices in the institution.
In a letter to the Vice-Chancellor of Central Agricultural University at Imphal, Manipur, the students threatened to continue their agitation against the alleged injustice meted out to Dr Nandeesha and demanded to conduct CBI enquiry.
They alleged that Assistant Registrar of the College Dr Subhashis Bagchi was misbehaving with the students and harassing both boys and girls.
Dr Nandeesha had raised voice against the recruitment of teachers in the college without qualifying in the National Eligibility Test (NET) and alleged that some of the support faculty appointed were the family members of the teaching staff.
The students also alleged that Dean of the college Dr J R Dhanje was involved in an illicit relationship and his activities had damaged the academic atmosphere of the college.
The students also forwarded their demands to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, President Pratibha Patil and Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and pointed out that a group of officials, led by Dean of the college Dr J R Dhanje, were involved in corruption and victimising Prof Nandeesha.
The students stated that Prof Nandeesha had been protesting against the corruption in appointment and financial malpractices in development work as well as misappropriation of funds in the college since long and finally written to the Union Ministries of Agriculture and Human Resource Development regarding the issues.
The Agartala bench of Gauhati High Court issued notice to the Central Agricultural University authorities at Imphal, Manipur, last week following suspension of Prof Nandeesha early this week while staying his transfer order.
The court sought reply from the university authorities and asked to submit related papers of the allegations levelled against Prof Nandeesha, which ultimately led to his transfer from the college followed by suspension.
