Police foil an attempt to rape, arrests youth in Kashmir
Srinagar Oct 3 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir Police today claimed to have foiled an attempt by a 25-year-old youth to rape a 14-year-old girl in the city.
It was due to timely information provided by the locals and swift action by the police, the girl was saved, Senior Superintendent of Police (SS) said here this afternoon.
He said the accused Imtiyaz Ahmad Zargar, a local resident, was arrested.
He said a tip-off was received from the locals that Zargar was trying to rape an orphan girl in old Barzulla locality this morning.
Immediately, a police party was rushed there and the accused was arrested before the crime could be committed.
The girl was handed over to her guardians after completion of the necessary formalities, he said.
Timely action of the police and cooperation from the local people prevented the occurrence of a ghastly crime, he said.
