CPI leader ends self-imposed 'punishment'

Hyderabad, Oct 3 (UNI) CPI Andhra Pradesh unit Secretary K Narayana, who was caught in camera eating non-vegetarian food on the Gandhi Jayanthi a year ago, today ended his 'self-imposed punishment' of not taking non-vegetarian food for a year.

Expressing happiness over being able to fulfil his vow, he told reporters here that he was caught in an embarassing situation when he found that only non-vegetarian food was available there when he went to Italy to attend a party conference.

The CPI leader, following the footsteps of Gandhiji who used to punish himself during his experiments with truth, said ''self-imposed punishment is the best.'' A popular Telugu daily had published a picture of Mr Narayana eating chicken on Gandhi Jayanthi after leading a 'padayatra' in Chinnaganjam village in Prakasam district, drawing inspiration from Mahatma's 'Salt Satyagraha.'
