AP Govt to waive loans taken by toddy tappers

Hyderabad, Oct 3 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy today said the government has decided to waive loans to the tune of Rs 8.5 crore (including the interest), sanctioned to toddy tappers by the National Backward Class Finance Development Corporation (NBCFDC) through 'Andhra Pradesh Geetha Parisramika Sahakara Arthika Samkshema Samstha.' An official release here said during 1994-95 to 2000-01, an amount of Rs 12.58 crore was sanctioned to the toddy tappers by the NBCFDC, New Delhi. Out of which Rs 4.67 crore was still due and along with the interest, this worked out to Rs 8.5 crore.

The Chief Minister, during a meeting held on toddy tappers issue with Backward Classes Welfare Minister Mukesh Goud and officials concerned at the Secretariat, asked them to direct the District Collectors to sanction houses and old age pension to toddy tappers.
