Eid celebrated with traditional enthusiasm in UP

Lucknow, Oct 2 (UNI)Eid-ul-Fitr, marking the end of the holy fasting month of Ramzan, was today celebrated in Uttar Pradesh with religious gaiety and fervour.

For the first time, people from the Shia and Sunni sects. offered namaz jointly at the Aishbagh Idgah in the presence of state governor T V Rajeswar and chief minister Mayawati in the state capital. Shia maulana Kalbe Sadiq and Sunnil cleric Maulana Khalid Rashid Firangimahali were also present during the joint namaz.

Namaz were also offered at different mosques in Lucknow with prominent being at Asifi Maszid at Chota Imambara and Tile Wali Maszid.

Donning new clothes and skull caps, members of the Muslim community exchanged greetings and sweets while children wearing colourful clothes were seen visiting parks and other places after offering namaz to celebrate Eid.

Several religious, social and political leaders have greeted people on the occasion.

Reports of celebration of Eid in a peaceful manner were recieved from Azamgarh, Bhariach, Allahabad, Varanasi, Barielly, Moradabad and other parts of the state.

Meanwhile, elaborate security arrangements have been made at all the sensitive places in the state in view of the Eid festival.
