TDP to decide on stand on Telangana soon: Naidu
Hyderabad, Oct 1 (UNI) Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu today said his party would soon take a decision on the issue of statehood for the Telangana region.
''The five-member Core Committee of the TDP has completed the task of eliciting opinion from a cross-section of people, including the partumen. After consulting with the members, a decision will be taken,'' he told mediapersons here.
He parried all questions relating to the issue, including the time frame, for announcing the party's stand on the sensitive issue.
Reiterating that the TDP was not against Telangana, he said ''the previous TDP government has done the maximum for the development of this backward region'', he added.
Mr Naidu, who reportedly had discussions with Telangana Rashtra Samiti President K Chandrasekhara Rao a few days ago, refused to confirm or deny their meeting between them.
Asked about opposition from some party leaders to the proposed alliance with the TRS, the TDP Supremo said, ''In democracy everyone can have a view. However, the party will take a collective decision in the interest of the party, state and the country on various issues.'' He also parried questions on electoral understanding, saying there was still lot of time.
