Sweepers stage protest in UP district, 10 held

Sultanpur, Oct 1 (UNI) Police resorted to mild force to quell a mob of safai karamcharis (sweepers), who were agitating the recent cancellation of their selection process by Uttar Pradesh government.

According to police, sweepers in large numbers staged protest in the district over the cancellation of their selection process, following massive irregularities.

However, police today used mild force, when the mob 'gheraoed' the Vikas Bhawan.

The cops later arrested 10 agitators when they vandalised property of the district Panchayat Raj Office.

The arrested have been sent to jail.
