Top commander of Jaish killed in encounter

Srinagar, Sep 30 (UNI) A self-styled Divisional Commander (DC) of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM), involved in the killing of 32 security personnel, was killed in a fierce encounter in south Kashmir, a senior police officer said today.

Superintendent of Police (SP) said troops of 42 Rashtriya Rifles (RR), 180 battalion CRPF and police launched a joint operation at Krapora Shahabad, Awantipora, in Pulwama district following a tip off about the presence of militants there.

He said an encounter ensued during operation which continued till late in the night yesterday in which JeM commander Abu Sarjeel, alias Khubaib, was killed.

Khubaib, a resident of Gujarat, Pakistan, had been active in the valley since 2000. A most wanted militant was heading a JeM module involved in the killing of 32 police, BSF and CRPF personnel.

Two pistols, one short gun, seven mobile phones, one web camers, one grenade and English movie CDs were recovered from the slain militant.
