Temple stampede in Jodhpur kills 50, injures 150

Jaipur, Sep 30 (UNI) At least 50 people were trampled to death and over 150 wounded in a stampede during the Navratra Stapana ceremony at the ancient Chamunda Mata Temple in the Mehrangarh fort in Jodhpur this morning.

Superintendent of Police Malini Agrawal said a large number of devotees thronged the temple for the ceremony when suddenly the tragedy happened around 0630 hrs, leaving 50 dead.

The injured were admitted to Mathura Das Mathur Hospital, Mahatma Gandhi Hospital and various other hospitals, she added.
