Vadodara, Sep 30 (UNI) A scrap trader was injured when a live detonator went off at his Tulsiwadi residence under Karelibaug police station, here today.
The blast occurred when the small-time trader, Thakorebhai Parmar, hit the device with a hammer in a bid to collect its alluminium cap. The victim, who sustained injuries to his hands, was immediately rushed to a local hospital.
Following the incident, top police personnel and a team of forensic experts rushed to the spot and seized 16 more live detonators from the victim's scrapyard, which are usually used to facilitate digging of borewells, police sources said.
Police added that Parmar had recently bought those unexploded devices as scrap items and stored them in his house-cum-scrapyard to extract their alluminium caps. Karelibaug police is investigating the matter.
