All India Price Index for Industrial Workers up by two points

Shimla, Sep 30 (UNI) All India Price Index Number for Industrial Workers (CPI-IW ) on base 2001-100 for the month of August increased by two points and stood at 145 points.

During August, the index recorded a maximum increase of 10 points in Godavarikham centre, nine points in Gunture centre, six points in Muger Jamalpur centre, five points in two centres. Four points each in six centres. Three points each in 11 centres, two points in 14 centres and one point in 30 centres. The index decreased by two points in Quilon centre and by one point each in Madurai and Kodarma centres, while in the remaining nine centres the index remained stationary.

The maximum increase of 10 points in Godavarikhani centre was mainly due to the increase in the prices of rice, arhar dal, moong dal, goat meat, onion, vegetable and fruit items and sugar.

The increase of nine point in Guntur centre was mainly due to increase in the prices of rice, arhar dal, onion, vegetable and fruit items. The decrease of two point in Quoin centre was due to decrease in the prices of fish fresh and coconut.

The decrease of one point in Madurai centre was due to the decrease in the prices of rice and some vegetable and fruit items while the decrease of one point in Kodarma centre was due to the declise in the prices of rice, wheat, wheat-atta and some vegetable and fruit items.

The indicies in respect of the six main centres are Ahmedabad (142), Bangalore (152), Chennai (138), Delhi (139), Kolkata (145) and Mumbai (146).

The point to point rate of inflation for the month of August was 9.02 per cent as compared to 8.33 per cent in July.
