New Delhi, Sep 29 (UNI) Admitting that the Samajwadi Party (SP) had contributed to the progress of the nuclear deal with the United States, the Congress today said it had helped the government at the time of crisis, created by the Left parties over the same issue.

AICC Spokesman Manish Tewari was reacting to a question on a newspaper advertisement which congratulated SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav and its General Secretary Amar Singh for placing 'nation's interest before political interest." Asked about the allegation of 'betrayal' levelled against the Congress by the Samajwadi Party over seat sharing between them for the forthcoming Lok Sabha election from Uttar Pradesh, he said "the SP is an independent political party. There are issues of convergence and divergence of views between the Congress and the SP. They need not approve of all that we say and we need not accept all that they say." Mr Tewari said negotiations were on between the Congress and the SP and there was a process of give and take. "However, we hope to ultimately resolve all issues." UNI SH SB GC1930
