Veteran sports journalist Aravindam passes away
Bangalore, Sep 28: Veteran sports journalist R Arvindam passed away here following a cardiac arrest on Saturday, Sep 27. He was 65 and is survived by his wife and two sons.
Arvindam began his career with the Deccan Herald during late Leslie Wilson era and later joined the Indian Express before moving over as the Sports Editor of the now-defunct Times of Deccan. He then joined the local office of the Times of India.
His special column 'Schools Corner' appeared in the sports special page on every Wednesday. The column attracted sponsors, who supported youth sports events in the late 1980s.
He retired as the Sports Editor of TOI, but continued to write columns for golf and cricket magazines before ill-health forced him to give up.
One of the founder members of the Sports Writers Association of Bangalore (SWAB), Arvindham was a recipient of the Dasara and KOA awards.
SWAB had felicitated him for his services to Sports Journalism this year.
His last rites were performed this morning.
The Sports Writers Association of Bangalore mourned the death of Arvindam.
