Thane NCP unit to hold mock funeral of TMT buses tomorrow
Thane, Sep 27 (UNI) The city unit of Nationalist Congress Party has organised a mock funeral for ''dead'' buses of Thane Municipal Transport (TMT) tomorrow to protest against the problems faced by the commuters due to erratic functioning of these buses.
Announcing the decision here today, Party city unit president Jitendra Awhad said the NCP activists will assemble at the civic headquarters here at about 1600 hours tomorrow and take out the funeral procession to Vaikunta Dham and cremate the dead buses.
''Around half-a-dozen road accidents have occurred recently calling for immediate measures in this regard,'' Mr Awhad said, adding that at present there are only 200 buses as against the requirement of more than 400 buses.
He said that the Brihanmumbai Electric State Transport Undertaking (BEST) should take over the services from TMT and bail Thaneites out of the situation.
