New Delhi, Sep 27 (UNI) Expressing his concern over today's blasts in Mehrauli in south Delhi--13 days after the serial blasts in the Capital--BJP's Chief Ministerial candidate for Delhi Vijay Kumar Malhotra today said the Manmohan Singh Government had no right to stay in power if it failed to protect the lives of the people.

Talking to UNI after visiting the blast site and AIIMS, where the injured had been hospitalised, Mr Malhotra said while one was killed, of the 18 injured, the condition of at least seven was very critical and two of them were undergoing brain surgery.

He said the blast had taken place despite the warnings by the intelligence agencies of the Government, "This shows total failure of the Government and laxity on the part of the police. After this, Home Minister Shivraj Patil should not take any pretext to defend himself but resign for his failure to provide security to the people of the capital," the BJP leader said.

Mr Malhotra alleged that this government in pursuance of its vote bank policy, was helping the terrorists instead of protecting the people. To substantiate his charge, he said its ministers -- Mr Arjun Singh and Mr Ram Vilas Paswan -- were justifying the Jamia Milia VC's move for collection of funds to defend the two student terrorists, arrested after a police encounter last week.

He termed the terrorist blasts in various places as "war against India" and said the Home Minister had learnt no lesson from the US which had taken tough measures after 9/11 attack.
