Fierce encounter between Bihar police and heavily armed dacoits
Betiah, Sep 27 (UNI) A fierce encounter between a gang of dreaded dacoits and the Bihar police took place at Srinagar area in West Champaran district near Indo-Nepal boder today in which over 300 rounds were fired by both sides.
Police here said despite heavy firing which continued for more than four hours this morning, there was no confirmed report of any casualty on either side so far.
The encounter began after a team of Special Task Force jawans of the district police rushed to Srinagar after receiving a tip-off from an informer that about 20 members of the dreaded Sanjay Yadav gang had assembled there for allegedly committing a crime.
After cordoning off the entire area, when the police force asked the dacoits to surrender, they opened fire forcing the police to retaliate immediately, leading to the four hour long encounter.
As many as 300 rounds were fired by both sides but there was no report of any casualty so far.
However, none of the dacoits could be arrested as the gang members fled into nearby jungles under cover of heavy firing, police said, adding that a massive search operation was launched to nab the heavily armed dacoits.
