Garments worth Rs five lakh damaged in fire
Kancheepuram, Sept 26 (UNI) A lorry carrying garments worth Rs five lakh caught fire when a container lorry dashed against it from behind near Melmaruvathur in this district of Tamil Nadu today.
Police said the mishap occurred when the lorry was going to Tindivanam from Chennai to export the garments in view of ensuing 'Diwali' When it reached Chennai-Tiruchirapalli National Highways, the driver suddenly applied a break, while the container lorry, following it, collided with it and both the lorries caught fire.
Fire Service personnel rushed to the spot and doused flames.
The drivers identified as Gopal(46), Madasami(23) had a narrow escape.
A case had been registered and investigation was underway, police added.
