Suspected pressure cooker bomb found near CM's public meeting venue
Gangtok, Sep 24 (UNI) Three hours before Sikkim Chief Minister Pawan Chamling was scheduled to address a public meeting, an unidentified object, suspected to be a pressure cooker bomb, was recovered today near the Kyongsa ground, the venue of the meeting. Policemen stumbled upon the suspected bomb during a routine combing exercise in the area at around 8 am before the arrival of the Chief Minister.
The pressure cooker had its lid partially opened and contained wires and a clock inside it, Sikkim DIG, Police, Akshay Sachdeva told UNI.
The cooker was lying approximately 150 feet away from the Kyongsa ground, at Geyzing, West Sikkim.
The spot was cordoned off by the police.
'' We have dispatched sniffer dogs and a special explosive team to Geyzing and awaiting confirmation from them on whether the object was actually a bomb or a dummy'', said Mr Sachdeva.
The school near the Kyongsa ground was closed down for today.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister's public meeting went ahead as scheduled.
