HC quashes decision to impose traffic regulations near VIP areas
Imphal, Sep 24 (UNI) A division bench of Gauhati High Court, Imphal Bench, quashed the prohibitory order issued by the Senior Superintendent of Police on September 2, completely banning entry of civilians' vehicles to all routes leading to the Chief Minister's bungalow and VIP areas.
The government had stopped movement of the vehicles near the CM's residence specially at night time following attack on the CM's residence by militants.
A division bench comprising Justices Maibam Binoykumar Singh and Asok Potsangbam yesterday stayed a portion of the order, issued by the Director of Transport, Manipur, closing vehicular movement of civilian vehicles from 6 p m to 7 a m along the eastern portion of the NH - 39 section divided by the road median, starting from the main gate of 1st BN Manipur Rifles up to the Traffic Island located in front of Imphal Post Office.
The above order was passed in a PIL filed on September 15 by Khaidem Mani.
The PIL was filed at the initiative of Human Rights Law Network (Manipur).
