Death to 6, lifer to 2 in Khairlanji murder case

Bhandara, Maharashtra, Sep 24 (UNI) A local court today sentenced six persons to death and awarded life imprisonment to two others in the Khairlanji murder case.

First Ad Hoc Judge and First Additional Sessions Judge S S Das awarded capital punishment to Shatrughan Dhande, Vishwanath Dhande, Prabhakar Mandlekar, Jagdish Mandlekar, Ram Dhande and Sakru Benjewar.

He awarded life imprisonment to the remaining two convicts Gopal Benjewar and Dharmapal Dhande.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 2,000 each on all the convicts, and an additional fine of Rs 1,000 each on the two convicts who were sentenced for life.

The punishments were handed down in connection with the gruesome killing of four members of a Dalit family in village Khairlanji in Bhandara district in Vidarbha region of Maharashtra nearly two years ago.
