CBI sleuths to visit Mizoram to probe Presbyterian pastor's death
Aizawl, Sep 24 (UNI) Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga today said the Central Bureau of Investigation is expected to come to the state soon to probe the controversial death of a well-known Presbyterian pastor who died here last year.
The CBI has taken into consideration the state government's request to probe the death of Rev Chanchinmawia, and would come here shortly to investigate the case, CM Zoramthanga said on his arrival from Delhi.
The state police's special investigation team had come to the conclusion in December last, after barely three months of investigation, that the death was a case of suicide.
However, people found it difficult to accept the suicide theory given the behaviour of the pastor and the circumstances under which he was found dead.
As the pastor was the president of the Mizoram Presbyterian Church-sponsored Mizoram People's Forum whose main objective was to work for free and fair elections in the state, the speculation is that 'political vendetta' could be behind his death.
