Bihar govt to strengthen intelligence services

Patna, Sep 24 (UNI) The Bihar government has decided to recruit 210 new police officers for strengthening its intelligence service to curb the growing menace of naxalism.

The state cabinet has given its nod to the proposal.

The new recruitment would include 30 Dy SP rank officers, 60 inspectors and 120 Assistant Sub-Inspectors.

Cabinet Secretary Girish Shankar informed here today that the state exchequer would have to bear an additional financial burden of over Rs 5 crore to implement the decision.

Growing activities of the extremists were a major challenge before the government as the banned Maoists have spread their tentacles in north Bihar.

Earlier the ultras were active in the central parts of the state but with the help of their counterparts in the adjoining Nepal, the extremists started creating problem in northern parts as well.

The long stretched Indo-Nepal porous border along Bihar has become a smooth passage for the proscribed guerillas.
