AP to provide pension to disabled

Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh, Sep 24 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh Government was taking steps to provide a monthly pension of Rs 500 to physically challenged people, East Godavari District Collector Gopalakrishna Dwivedi said today.

Inaugurating a free medical camp for physically-challenged people from Kadapa, Kajuluru, Thallarevu and Kakinada Rural mandals at the Kadapa Primary Health Centre, he said the disabled would be given priority in sanctioning of pensions.

He said the medical camp was being conducted as a part of the government policy to organise free mega medical camps in all the Assembly constituencies. He said the disabled would be examined and disability certificates would be issued at the medical camps itself, relieving them from the ordeal of visiting Rajahmundry and Kakinada Government Hospitals for the purpose.

The next medical camp would be held at Ramachandrapuram on October 3.

Zilla Parishad Chairman Ch S Venugopalakrishna said efforts were being made to distribute tricycles and other implements to the disabled at the medical camps.
