Youth Congress to take out 'padayatra' against church attacks

Bangalore, Sep 23 (UNI) Youth Congress will take out a padayatra in the city tomorrow to highlight the 'failures' of four-month-old BJP government and to protest the series of attacks by pro-Hindu activists on Churches in the state.

Speaking to reporters State Youth Congress President Krishna Byregowda said the government had failed to safeguard the interests of people in general and minorities in particular.

"It is not just the church attacks. The city witnessed serial blasts last month, while communal violence broke out during Ganesha immersion processions. People are battered under the inept rule of this government and we want to highlight this," he said.

The Youth Congress workers would take out a rally from Hebbal area where a church came under attack on Saturday night. They would march towards Rajbhavan and submit a memorandum to Governor Rameshwar Thakur to this effect, he said.

"The attacks on churches had not been isolated but the pro-Hindu organisations have unleashed an organised attack on minorities and the state government should own up the responsibility," he added.
