Surveillance of MP brings back thoughts of emergency: Kumaraswamy
Mysore, Sep 23 (UNI) The BJP Government in Karnataka, ordering police to monitor of movements of a Member of Parliament, brings back the memories of Emergency, Janata Dal(S) Leader H D Kumaraswamy said today.
Speaking to reporters at Suttur Village, near here, he said such a decision was anti-democratic and irresponsible.
''Instead of maintaining law and order situation, the BJP Government is trying to put the blame on the Opposition parties and make the police a scapegoat.
''Its decision to watch the movements of its own Parliament member H T Sangliana is objectionable and dangerous,'' he said.
Quoting Mr Yeddyurappa's recent statement accusing Opposition parties of instigating attacks on places of worship, he said such allegations were baseless and far from the truth.
''Why did the BJP Government invoke the Goonda Act on attackers after all was over with more than two dozen churches bearing the brunt of the attacks by organisations of the majority community.
''Why did he not take such a decision on day one and let the attacks spread to several districts?'' he asked.
He accused the State Government of falsely blaming the police and said it had not given a free hand and stopped the police from initiating action against the 'known' organisations that were responsible for the attacks.
