New Delhi, Sep 23 (UNI) The Supreme Court today dismissed a petition filed by former Union Minister and Janata Party President Subramaniam Swamy seeking to retain the election symbol of Janata Party, namely 'Chakra haldhar'(Farmer carrying plough within the wheel).

Dr Swamy had come in appeal against Delhi High Court Judgement upholding the Election Commission Of India withdrawing the recognition of the Janata Party as a national party .

A bench headed by Justice Ashok Bhan, dismissed his petition on the grounds that his party does not fulfil the eligibilty criterion for a national political party as it does not have the requisite number of MPs and MLAs.
