Praja Rajyam, CPI to join hands against SEZs
Hyderabad, Sep 23 (UNI) The Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) founded by actor-turned-politician Chiranjeevi and the CPI will spearhead a joint stir against Special Economic Zones (SEZs) being promoted in a big way by the Centre and the Andhra Pradesh Government.
Confirming the maiden meeting between Chiranjeevi and CPI State Secretary K Narayana, PRP Spokesperson P Mitra told reporters here today that the PRP would join hands with all like-minded parties to fight against ''anti-people'' policies of the Congress Government.
Precious lands were snatched away from farmers and others in the name of SEZs without paying adequate compensation, he alleged.
Dr Mitra expressed confidence that the PRP would emerge as an alternative to the ruling Congress in the 2009 general elections.
The meeting comes close on the heels of the CPI leader's luncheon meeting with Telangana Rashtra Samiti President and former Union Labour Minister K Chandrasekara Rao to work unitedly on various issues concerning the Telangana people.
The CPI has been exploring the possibility of evolving a third front in the state as an alternative to the Congress and the main Opposition TDP.
