Patna HC admits appeal of Sunil Pandey

Patna, Sep 23: The Patna High Court on Tuesday, Sep 23 admitted an appeal of suspended JD(U) MLA Sunil Pandey, alias Narendra Kumar Pandey, challenging the life sentence given to him by a local court in Dr Ramesh Chandra kidnapping case.

While admitting the appeal for hearing, a division bench, comprising Justices Mridula Sharma and S M Mehfooz Alam, also called for the records of the case from Patna district court.

Earlier, on September 17, Additional District and Sessions Judge, Vijay Prakash Mishra found Sunil Pandey guilty under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and sentenced him life imprisonment for kidnapping Dr Ramesh Chandra, a noted neuro-surgeon of the ountry.

Dr Chandra was kidnapped on May 17, 2003 and the abductors demanded Rs 50 lakh as ransom. He was rescued by the police on May 21, 2003.
Subsequently, a case was filed in this regard.
