Baby born from frozen embryo

Thrissur, Sep 23 (UNI) A baby has been born out of a frozen embryo, claimed to be the first-of-its-kind in Kerala.

The baby, born yesterday at the Craft Hospital and Research Centre in Kodungallur in this district through IVFICSI treatment was fine, hospital sources said.

Three-years-ago, a couple from Thiruvananthapuram had approached the hospital for infertility and underwent IVFICSI treatment.

Seven embryos were taken, out of which three were transferred to the mother and four were frozen at 196 degree centigrade.

Of the three embryos, one was implanted in the mother and Chinnu was born.

After a gap of three years, the couple again approached the hospital for a second child.

A team of doctors headed by Sujatha retrieved the four embryos and one embryo was implanted in the mother's womb, sources added.
